Kearney High School students are putting service at the center of this year’s Homecoming celebration with a community-wide Race to Fill the Pantry!

The KHS Service Committee selected the Kearney Food Pantry as the primary focus for this year’s Day of Service and is inviting the entire community to help stock its shelves. Nonperishable food donations will be collected at KHS home sporting events throughout Homecoming Week.

Community members who donate will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win Bulldog spirit gear, with prizes raffled off during each event:

  • Thursday, Sept. 17: KHS Volleyball
  • Monday, Sept. 21: KHS JV Football
  • Wednesday, Sept. 23: KHS Softball
  • Wednesday, Sept. 23: Homecoming Powderpuff Football
  • Thursday, Sept. 24: KHS Boys Soccer
The food collected during the campaign will become part of an even larger student service effort. On Nov. 3, KHS sophomores and juniors will participate in the school’s annual Day of Service, sorting the donated items and assembling meal kits for the Kearney Food Pantry.

Students will also collect additional food during Day of Service week to create Thanksgiving meal kits for local families who could use some additional support during the holiday season. Homecoming is a time to celebrate Bulldog pride, and this year KHS students are helping turn that pride into service for their community.
