The Kearney School District 2026 Back-to-School Resource Fair is less than one month away, and community volunteers can play an important role in helping local students and families start the new school year prepared and supported.
Volunteers will help create a safe and welcoming setup, sort school supplies, assemble supply bags, organize clothing and move room furniture as needed.

Kearney School District families, staff members and community members are invited to support this year’s "Buy a Shirt/Give a Shirt" fundraiser for the KSD Resource Fair.
This effort helps make sure every student has the opportunity to have a piece of Kearney gear to wear for spirit days, special events and other Bulldog celebrations throughout the school year.
Any shirts that are not picked up during Resource Fair week will be sent to the school where the child attends, so they can be sent home in backpacks.

The Kearney School District Board of Education met on Wednesday, July 15, for its regular monthly business meeting. The Board received updates on summer 2022 bond projects, reviewed June financial reports and approved several items connected to long-range planning, facility needs, employee compensation, district operations and preparations for the 2026-2027 school year.
Key actions included approval of community research with ExcellenceK12 to help inform future decisions about long-range facility needs and potential budget options, as well as building assessment work with Hollis + Miller. The Board also approved revised salary schedules designed to support employee recruitment and retention, updates to the district’s facilities rental agreement and 2026-2027 bus routes.

Ava represented Kearney FCCLA last week at the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., where she earned ninth place in the nation in the Interior Design Level 3 competition.
Her project was comparable to a college-level capstone experience. It required an extensive understanding of interior design principles, advanced computer-aided design programming skills and exceptional attention to detail. Ava also presented and defended her work during a 10-minute presentation before a panel of judges.
FCCLA advisors Kathryn Cash and Kassidy Robertson said they are incredibly proud of Ava and everything she accomplished through this demanding competition.
This is another example of the investment Kearney School District is making in our great Bulldog community. Congratulations, Ava, on this remarkable achievement and for representing Kearney High School and Kearney FCCLA with excellence on the national stage!

The team brought a routine to camp for competition and then spent the weekend learning multiple new routines that were evaluated by UDA staff. Earning a Superior rating is the highest distinction awarded, and the Golden Girls consistently performed at an exceptional level throughout the weekend.
The team's accomplishments included:
- 1st Place Home Routine
- Team Full Out Award for Performance Routine
- Superior Award for Performance Routine
- 110% Award, voted on by UDA staff
- Drill Down Superior Team
Seven Golden Girls also auditioned for the prestigious All-American Award by learning a new routine on Friday evening and performing it on Saturday afternoon. Every Kearney dancer who auditioned earned All-American honors:

- Analeigh Miles
- Kamryn Slaughter
- Claire Watson
- Peyton Williams

Sometimes inspiration starts on a snowy day.
During a snow day at Kids Club last January, Emerson Swartz found herself looking for something to do. She started sketching while spending the day with friends, when Kearney School District Kids Club Director Holly Wilmes noticed her artistic talent and encouraged her to design a t-shirt for this year's Kids Club Summer Expedition.
Emerson took the idea home, refined her artwork on her iPad and created the colorful beach-themed design that dozens of Kearney School District students and staff have proudly worn throughout this summer's program.
Now preparing to enter fifth grade at Southview Elementary, Emerson said drawing has become one of her favorite hobbies after discovering a love for art a few years ago. She hopes to continue creating, and says art has taught her an important lesson.
"Even when I'm not really happy sometimes, drawing can always make you feel better," she said. "It’s like finding a cozy spot where I can be myself.”
Emerson's story illustrates how creative educational experiences often begin with a little encouragement. Ms. Wilmes, Kids Club Site Director Sabrina Clayton and their entire team create an environment where students are encouraged to explore their interests, develop their talents and share their gifts with others. Congratulations to Emerson on creating a design that will help our students and staff members remember this summer's Kids Club Summer Expedition.
Great job, Emerson. We can't wait to see where your creativity takes you next!

Recently, our Kids Club Summer Expedition at Kearney Junior High gave our K-5 students an up-close look at the people, equipment and technology that help keep the lights on every day.
Our friends from Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative spent the morning introducing students to the world of electric utilities through hands-on demonstrations and interactive learning. Students explored a bucket lift truck, watched a drone demonstration, and learned about electrical safety using a detailed model power grid that showed how electricity travels from substations to homes and businesses.
Beyond the impressive equipment, students also heard about the many careers that make reliable electric service possible, from lineworkers and engineers to drone pilots and other technical professionals.
Experiences like this help bring classroom learning to life while introducing students to careers they may one day pursue. We are grateful to Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative for investing their time, expertise and enthusiasm in our students and for being such a valued community partner.

Kearney School District’s kindergarten enrollment is open for the 2026-2027 academic year! If you have a child who will be age five on or before July 31, 2026, this is the time to enroll them in kindergarten! Start the kindergarten enrollment process by clicking the link provided below.
Parents/guardians will be required to provide a birth certificate, a record of required immunizations, and proof of residence for their child during kindergarten enrollment. Use our online district boundary map to locate the elementary school your child will attend.
Kindergarten Orientation events will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at each of KSD’s elementary schools.

Kearney School District hosted a special lunch today for members of our grounds, maintenance, custodial and IT crews as a way of expressing our gratitude for the extraordinary work they do throughout the year.
Their efforts help keep our schools safe, welcoming and ready for learning every day. That work only intensifies during summer break, when these dedicated staff members are cleaning classrooms, repairing facilities, maintaining our campuses and preparing every building and piece of IT equipment for the return of our certified staff and students.
The quality of their work does not go unnoticed. During yesterday’s Board of Education work session, architects from Hollis + Miller shared how impressed they have been by the condition of our schools as they conduct facility assessments across the district. That is a tremendous reflection of the pride, skill and care our grounds, maintenance and custodial teams bring to their work.
We are grateful for everything they do behind the scenes and across our campuses to help make Kearney School District a great place to learn and work. Please join us in thanking these outstanding members of our Bulldog team!
