Help Us Control Misuse of School Dumpsters

Kearney School District community, we need your help!

Over the last several years, our schools have seen an increase in non-school trash and bulky items being placed in our recycling and trash dumpsters. This has become an issue at all of our campuses. When this happens, KSD is charged overage and contamination fees by our waste disposal vendor, which adds up to thousands of dollars each year that we’d rather invest in students.

Our students do a great job of recycling. Unfortunately, we’ve found items like broken furniture, full household trash bags and remodeling debris in the recycling bins. That makes it more difficult for our students to recycle and more costly for the district.

Please keep in mind that:
  • School dumpsters and recycling bins are for school use only
  • Putting non-recyclables into recycling bins or using school dumpsters for personal trash leads to extra fees paid by the district
  • Our campuses are monitored and we appreciate everyone for doing the right thing

It is illegal to use district dumpsters to dispose of trash and recycling. Moving forward, KSD will begin to pursue fines on individuals caught doing so. If you have extra refuse or large items, please use your trash service or approved community disposal options. Thank you for helping us be good stewards of taxpayer dollars and for supporting our schools' recycling efforts!

KJH Bulldogs Grow Crops and Minds

Eighth graders in Erica Hart's agriculture classes at Kearney Junior High have been working in their raised garden beds this fall. They have made every decision on their own, according to Mrs. Hart, from the variety of crops to the layout design and fertilizer choices.

"These are the largest radishes I have ever seen, along with a great harvest of mustard greens!" Mrs. Hart said.

Even as winter lays its heavy hand outside, the students will continue to tend their garden and harvest their crops for another couple of weeks. This is how we grow great minds in Kearney School District

This year's Turkey Trot was a huge success! We're so grateful to our event sponsors, everyone who purchased a ticket and all the volunteers who made this an amazing Thanksgiving morning! The funds raised directly support our students through the KSD Education Foundation and the Kearney High School Cross Country team! THANK YOU, BULLDOGS!!!

Power Up!

What does the Bulldog way look like? It's this young man who brought his homemade, Mario Brothers-inspired sign to the 2025 Turkey Trot and yelled "POWER UP" to his fellow runners to give them a much-needed boost of energy as they neared the finish line. Hat-tip.
