Kearney High School juniors Britta Nielson and Noble “Maja” Hermon have been selected to participate in the 2024 Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program.

The chamber’s Youth Leadership Program is an exclusive four-month experience (one day a month from January through April) connecting high school juniors with civic, business and government leaders/organizations in the Northland community, according to the organization’s website.

Only two students from each high school in the Northland Chamber’s region are allowed to participate in the annual program. Those students are selected by their high school principal based on an extensive application process that provides evidence of their commitment to academic excellence and their community.

By exposing students to established leaders in professional and community environments, students will acquire new leadership insights and a broader understanding of how the greater Northland community functions to assist with a successful future. This program is sponsored by the Northland Chamber’s business members and supporters.

Both students were recently selected to participate in the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce 2024 Youth Leadership Program.

This isn’t Ms. Nielson and Mr. Hermon’s first experience with leadership training. They both benefitted from participating in last summer’s Rotary Youth Leadership Academy at the University of Central Missouri.

This year’s program was launched with kickoff event on Jan. 8 at Northwest Missouri State University’s Kansas City campus. Their meetings will include learning about leadership skills and team building, a Northland community service project, and insights about county government and law enforcement. Participants will complete the program during the Chamber’s April luncheon at Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun.
