JV squad takes conference crown at Shiloh Springs Golf Course

Kearney, Mo., May 3, 2022: The Kearney High School boys golf squad simply refuses to let the lingering winter keep them from finding success on the greens.

The Bulldogs once again adapted to cold, wet conditions during the Suburban Conference “Blue Division” Championship on Monday, May 2 at Shiloh Springs Golf Course near Platte City. Despite the weather, the varsity squad earned third place at the meet and the JV team drove their way to the conference championship.

“These boys have had to battle tough conditions all season and I am very proud of their grit and teamwork,” Head Coach Dilon Starzle said. “Their results today are a direct result of the hard work they’ve put in these last couple of months.”

KHS golfer Canton Wood had the varsity squad’s best day, shooting an 81 and earning conference bronze. Conner Smith took sixth with an 86. Drake Cole and Abram Stuart tied for ninth with a 92. Braxton Breedlove finished tied for 12th with a 93. Canton, Conner, Drake and Abram were awarded All-Conference honors finishing in the Top 10. Breedlove earned an All-Conference Honorable Mention. The team shot a combined 351, just one stroke short of a three-way tie for first.

The Bulldogs won the JV Conference Tournament Championship with a team score of 404. Brock Stout finished first with a 96, followed by Abram Spicer in fourth with a 100, Nick Turley in fifth with a 101, Ethan Cox in 10th with a 107 and Carter Smith in 12th with a 109. The JV squad is coached by Zach Boswell

Woods, Stuart, Breedlove, Smith and Cole will all play in the District Championship meet on Monday, May 9 at the Drumm Farm Golf Course in Independence.
