Kearney High School (KHS) and Platte County High School (PCHS) are teaming up again for the “Highway 92 Showdown” on Friday, September 13,  to support a charitable cause. Game start time is 7:00 p.m. at Pirate Stadium, and the winner will take home the traveling trophy – a replica Highway 92 sign.

The schools will again be selling Highway 92 Showdown t-shirts with any profit from the sales being donated to the host school’s choice.  As the host team, this year PCHS has chosen to partner with Hillcrest Platte County, the Treasure Chest, Kearney Enrichment Council, and the Kearney Food Pantry to provide support to both local communities by assisting with homelessness, food shortages, and assistance resources. Shirts are $15 and can be purchased online until September 8 using the following link: https://hwy92showdownkearney.itemorder.com/sale. You can also purchase your Highway 92 Showdown shirt at the game. High School students also have the opportunity to purchase them during lunch at KHS.

In addition, Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative, will be joining the team for a good cause as the official Highway 92 Showdown Business Sponsor. Platte-Clay Electric’s CEO, Dave Deihl, will present the trophy to the winning team after the game. The company will also contribute $500 to the donations total and will sell Highway 92 Showdown t-shirts at both Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative offices; 1000 W. Highway 92, Kearney, MO 64060 and 15055 Bethel Road, Platte City, MO 64079.  Both offices are open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, or FREE if you bring 5 non-perishable food or toiletry items. Most needed items include canned fruits, canned vegetables, canned tuna/chicken and toilet paper. These items will be donated to Kearney’s Food Pantry and PCR-3’s Treasure Chest to support families in need in our communities.

To further support this cause, be sure to donate your loose change at the Highway 92 Showdown marked containers at the Price Chopper stores in Platte City and Kearney during the week of September 6 through September 13.

All proceeds will be split evenly between the two school districts to support their local organizations.
